FAQs
-
Integrative oncology is a patient-centered, evidence-informed field of cancer care that combines mind and body practices, natural therapies, and lifestyle medicine alongside conventional cancer treatment. The goal is to optimize health, quality of life, and clinical outcomes across the entire cancer journey - before, during, and after treatment. It is the model of care championed by the Society for Integrative Oncology, of which I am a professional member.
-
Naturopaths trained in oncology work alongside your conventional medical team. The focus is on evidence-informed natural and supportive therapies that help manage side effects, support recovery, reduce the risk of recurrence, and improve quality of life. Nothing I recommend will conflict with your treatment plan, and I work collaboratively with your oncology team throughout.
-
Yes. During active treatment the focus shifts to supportive care - managing side effects, protecting gut health, and optimizing nutrition to help your body tolerate treatment as well as possible. In the windows between treatments, we use that time strategically to strengthen your system, support recovery, and build resilience for what's ahead. Everything I recommend is evidence-informed and safe alongside your conventional treatment plan.
-
Functional testing goes beyond standard blood work to assess how your body is actually functioning - including estrogen metabolism, nutrient status, gut health, inflammation markers, and organic acids. In a cancer care context, this gives us a detailed picture of the biological environment influencing your recovery and long-term resilience, so we can address root causes rather than manage symptoms in isolation.
-
Rather than managing symptoms, a root cause approach asks why those symptoms are happening. Using functional testing and detailed health history, I identify the underlying patterns - hormonal, metabolic, gut-related, inflammatory - that are driving how you feel, so we can address them at the source rather than layer treatments on top of symptoms.
-
Functional breast health support goes beyond imaging and standard follow-up. Using estrogen metabolism testing, organic acids, functional blood chemistry, and genetic markers, I assess the biological environment that influences breast cancer risk and recovery - giving you and me a detailed picture of what is actually happening, so we bring the body back into balance.
-
Yes. I work entirely online and currently see patients across New Zealand and the United States. All consultations take place via a secure telehealth portal - no special software required.
-
Some Health Reimbursement Programs in the United States cover consultations and functional testing - contact your employer for details.
In New Zealand, Accuro and Southern Cross may reimburse naturopathic and nutrition consultations, but only when provided by practitioners registered with recognized professional associations. As a registered member of the Naturopaths and Medical Herbalists of New Zealand and Clinical Nutritionists Aotearoa NZ, my services meet that requirement. Please contact your insurer directly to confirm your cover.
